I believe Rose is a mummy, and Col has included her most precious things for the afterlife.

Welcome back to all of us. I think maybe we all went a little off the technological cliff this past week, like back to the late 90’s when we all showered more often than we checked e-mail. I wasn’t even in the same state as my computer for 5 days.

On account of being here:

And then I heard from many disappointed fans (okay, just my mom and Aunt Jan) that there was a technological glitch in opening my post last night, and since I’m up at 6:34 AM due to exuberant post-sleepover kids drumming and singing deafeningly in living room, I am re-typing.

So, you may not notice, but you are on new and improved 6512 and growing site. You have been redirected here. There is a slightly new address and although it looks the same, it is better, like me after vacation, which is a story coming your way very soon.

It’s absolute magic—this blog-site switcheroo—spun by the generous and tech savvy Mary Beth (who knows her way around computers while also being a borage-loving hippie). This is now officially a self-hosted site. (Is that the correct term, mb?). This should give me more freedom, plus Mary Beth says that after I self-publish my book on fertilizing gardens with pee (with guest chapter written by Dan on using elk pee as self-camouflage), setting up e-commerce will be a cinch. Also, those of you who haven’t been able to comment should be able to lavish lovely comments on me now.

The good people at wordpress are supposed to be transfering all e-mail subscribers over to this new site. (Automatic redirect will eventually expire). However, if you are subscribed through your own wordpress blog or RSS I believe you have to resubscribe.

So, if you’re not getting your usual e-mail/RSS/microchip IV updates on current posts, maybe resubscribe? or switch your satellite moonbeam setings?

The real magic is you guys, and your loyal support and presence here. I hope every one of you got what you wanted for the holidays.

Winner of The Sun Magazine giveaway is Emily (emywizbuff). Sweet! Send me your address and I’ll sign you up.

Love,

Rachel

* I can see there is still some layout funk to work out, just as soon as Mary Beth comes out of her no-internet in the woods compound.

Last week, while doing the laundry, I noticed a loud tapping sound coming from the dryer. I had to go out to run an errand, so I turned off the dryer and decided to locate the object and start it back up when I returned. When I opened up the dryer upon return, the most dreadful stale piss smell I have ever encountered in my life escaped and polluted the whole house. I thought maybe I dried and unwashed a pee diaper — but it would have to be an entire load of unwashed pee diapers to smell that bad. After opening all of the doors and windows in the house (mind you, it is 35 degrees here in the daytime), I discovered TWO empty bottles of deer pee that must have been in my husband’s hunting pants. Vile. Tell me that you can relate.

i think i have worked out the layout funk. ;) sorry, it took me a while to crawl out of my wooded bliss this morning, and of course i’m on pacific time. what a fine day here by the ocean. anyway, i just want to say thank you for taking a chance on me rachel (cue abba: “take a chance take a chance take a take chance chance) and i hope your new self hosted platform is everything you hoped for and dreamed of, because you are a babe and you deserve it.

i see some folks are already resubscribing via email but you should not need to (though it may take a day or two so check and make sure you don’t miss any posts), and actually if i am understanding correctly, those who follow in various blog readers (such as google reader and even wordpress), i believe you also do not need to resubscribe though it may take wordpress a teeny minute to catch up and fetch the posts for non-wordpress blogs. (i don’t use it much so i have less experience with that reader.) google reader, for what it’s worth, sees the posts without me having resubscribed and anyone using it should not have to do any moonbeam tweaking.

Delurking to say that your site looks great! I’ll subscribe now so that I don’t look like a stalker checking back every day for a new post. Happy New Year!

The new site is awesome, it looks great and seems faster. Just a word of advice now that you’re self hosting; be sure and back up your theme, database, and document any plugins/settings you’re using. I am sharing this just because I wish someone had advised me when I started managing my own hosting. Happy new year.
