A few things

Oh this?

Just a little fermented cherry-apple something that may or may not change your life. To be opened and sampled at the Art of Fermentation class this Saturday, a few spots left.

Also, if you’re one of the many people who’ve come my way via your Google search for “fermented ginger ale” (as opposed to the 2 who’ve come my way via searches for “bears eating pot” and “girls wearing shorts tight yogurt plants porn.” Geez, people), breaking news: if you let your fermented ginger ale sit longer than 2 weeks, starting at about 3 weeks you will notice your brew getting less sugary, more boozy. Good to know, right?

Also #2. Lets say, for example, that one of your children, for example’s sake, gives his sibling’s gum to the neighbor kid, knowing full well this is not his gum to give. And, lets say that the other sibling, 2 days earlier, pocketed a crucial lego piece and claimed not to have seen it while everyone furiously searched. And lets say that you think punishment works about as effectively as our prison system, but hope to respond to your children in a way that elicits responsibility and compassion for others. Well, I haven’t the foggiest idea what to do either, that’s why I’m taking this class. Earlybird registration discounts through this Friday.

Also #3: something new for my kids to pick out of their dinners.

Broccoli leaves! Broccoli and kale (and cabbage/cauliflower/brussels sprouts) are actually all the same species (brassica oleracea) and the young leaves taste just like kale. Incidentally, broccoli leaves are a good source of: protein, thiamin, niacin, pantothenic acid, calcium, iron, Vit’s A, C, and B6, riboflavin, magnesium, potassium and phosphorus. Whew, I was feeling a little low on pantothenic acid.

Also, #4. If your food processor ever breaks down, a golf club is a good substitute for crushing trail mix.

Quick, before he patents it.

Finally, the book, Where the Mountain Meets the Moon, came in for me at the library and I have the feeling someone here recommended it to me for a very specific reason, but I can’t remember why. Anyone?

May your day be full of wondrous creatures,

 xo,

Rachel

haha. I did! For Rose, because of a goldfish sold to the main character by a traveling goldfish salesman. But I can’t remember why Rose would have a goldfish interest now…

I grew kale for the first time this year and I’m so proud of myself! I’m mostly drinking it in smoothies.

That looks completely life changing. Maybe you can do a fermentation webinar? ;) I’m glad for the fermented ginger ale reminder. I made two failed attempts and then we moved. Time to try again!

I’ve just found your blog via Gypsy Forest and love your posts. I hadn’t thought to eat broccoli leaves but now I know what to do with the romanesco plants I have that never produced florets. I have plants with a bunch of big leaves that I can eat! Thanks!
