Before the kiss

2010 August 20
by Rachel Turiel

I’ve been tracking this sunflower, trying to catch it just before it bloomed, in the momentary pause before it rolled out its yellow petal runways for the honeybees.

I think our wedding photographer felt the same way, trailing Dan and me through the aspen grove, trying to imprint forever on film the moment just before the kiss, which he claimed was much classier, photographically speaking.

And there it is, just before the kiss, eight years ago this week. And yes, we were wearing deer skin (Dan sewed his vest, I had my top made by a local seamstress. My amazingly talented friend Kristi beaded the straps). And no, our eyeglasses didn’t get hooked together shortly after this kiss, which has, er, happened. And yes, Dan is probably canceling our internet now.

*** we celebrated our eight year anniversary (15 years together – history here) by leaving the kids with Sage after dinner and heading down to the river. The storm clouds knocking around the late summer sky were a bit sketchy, so deciding to stick close to shelter we found a highly-manicured grassy spot near the rec center and leaned up against some (faux?) rocks and shared a piece of chocolate cake. It was absolutely perfect.

I love all the flowers in this wedding picture. How very very sweet. Don’t you think wedding photos tell so much about a couple?
Happy Anniversary. I love how you mention (15 years together) Those years before marriage totally count :-)

I agree, ALL the years count. And all our wedding flowers came from my garden. Somehow I managed to grow enough flowers for a gazillion bouquets but forgot to put on a smear of lipstick on the big day.

    Rachel,
What a cute couple you make. Congratulations!
Those are some beautiful straps on your dress. They caught my eye. How special that your friend made them. It isn’t so bad that your glasses get hooked together every now and again now is it :) :)
    So Cute!
