Giveaway Winner!
Hi Bibliophiles and Bookworms,
Thanks for your rousing, literary-sharing, giveaway-participation. That was fun! And I found myself nodding as I read your comments. Wally Lamb uh huh, Barbara Kingsolver of course, The Red Tent, To Kill a Mockingbird; yes! yes!. And did someone say Anne Lamott? If you love to stare at a blank page while your forehead vein pulses write, than Lamott’s Bird by Bird is a must.
My faithful assistants, with Utah sand still clinging to their toes took the task of randomly selecting a winner very seriously. (Spoiler alert) When they picked someone’s name, they’d say: Wendy? Did we win Wendy?!
With no further ado:
Ina May’s Guide to Childbirth goes to Melissa, in the SF Bay Area, who is 30 weeks pregnant with a her second child.
Toddler (I have two copies) goes to:
Wendy, who likes the idea of knitting, and films sparring bucks on her property.
Stacia, who is writes fabulous haikus while baby #3 unfurls eyelashes in utero.
And Momma Zen goes to Erin, of the Pacific Northwest where she raises three children, writes lovely poetry and savors coffee.
Please e-mail me your physical addresses and I will send off your new/old books!
Also, if Dan and I can get any of the personal time we’re bargaining for this weekend (“I’ll give you Sunday morning if I can get Saturday afternoon.” Do you and your partner do that?), then by Monday I’ll have posted: Tales from the Desert, in which:
Parents fake-smile through their chattering teeth while bundling children in every scrap of clothing available and tossing them out into the sand.
Despite hauling offspring to the amazing Double Arches and The Colorado River, the young’uns have their peak experiences in the Moab bakery and gasp! the golf course.
Dan catches up on his reading from 2006.
This post is brought to you by the scary but fascinating properties of glue in the hands of children.
*Also, some of you expressed interest in our Babysitting Co-op. E-mail me and I will send you the bylines.
“I’ll give you Sunday morning if I can get Saturday afternoon.” Do you and your partner do that?
uh-huh.
we’re about to enter the magical world you described so beautifully a couple of posts ago where adults will (far) outnumber children….so hopefully in the coming week we will get to have some personal time…together!!! woah! fun!

Cold vacations, especially wherein there is sand, are the very best and the very worst, aren’t they? Can’t wait for the recap. Also, thank your lovely assistants for choosing my name. Yippee!
I’m so glad we’re not the only ones beg, steal, and borrowing for Personal Time! What a relief! (I had mine this morning, he’s gone out now…)
we also do the trade on night for another night sort of thing. i think it is a must. my husband plays music one night a week and i go to my neighbors for a knitting or spinning evening. can’t wait to see the picture from your trip and read more of you adventure!
oh, bonk on the head! how did i miss this!? Anne Lamott would have topped my list for sure, and i have to admit that i can’t get tired of The Master and Margarita no matter how much i read it. it gets funnier every time.
thank you for putting me on your blogroll – i’m going to do the same!
apropos of your assistants’ clamor (and not much else…), I can’t resist:
PETER PAN:
We’ll need lots of wood
Need lots of leaves
Need lots of paint
But hush hush hush hush hush…
Let’s be quiet as a mouse
And build a lovely little house
For Wendy
Oh for Wendy
She’s come to stay
(and more, here

Bargaining goes on around here all the time. But mostly for the right to nap.
