Hunter returns

Empty handed yes, but home. Archery season is over and our hard working hunter has hung up his bow and quiver for another year. Rose’s hope that “maybe Daddy will get a deer for us to eat” will have to be pinned on rifle season, coming in mid-October.

Dan’s arrival was heralded with much fan fare from the little people. Rose combed through his food sack, striking gold with chip crumbs and sticky raisins which might have once rubbed elbows with m’n’m’s. Col and Dan got right down to business with a triathalon of push the button (push Daddy’s bellybutton and Col flies through the air), wrestling on the bed, and hunting stories with sketches.

Sadly, all the sweet reunions didn’t preclude the painful, dragging-out-of-the bedtime-routine followed by the teeth-brushing-meltdown that we can look forward to most nights.  Right now Col is having his 5th pre-bedtime snack, ignoring his buttered toast and instead rambling on about how he’s never heard of Uranus before and Dan, who has spent the last 4 days rising at 5:00 am to chase elk through the snarled mountains is wearily prompting him “chew Buddy, chew.”

Glad Dan’s home safe & sound, but sorry no luck w/the bow – hopefully next year!! Yay for you making it thru & being able to have enough clarity to write so coherently & so colorfully about it!
