scavengers

2011 August 5

Apparently the children have become such devoted scavengers that when our neighbor left a scraped-out cantaloupe and a stack of stale bread on our porch for the chickens, Rose was reluctant to hand over the melon, “but it looks so fresh, Mama!”

Also, if comfrey is growing like a bush in your yard too, this is an excellent recipe for fertilizer.

And, we made this sausage gravy tonight and ate it over rice and steamed chard and topped it with garden tomatoes (the recipe is in the comments). It was the OMG-ist. We substituted the wine for beer. I’m thinking about all my hunting friends with sausage in the freezer (Hi Robert! And Chris! And Josh and Chris from North Carolina!)
