I recall my boy at the age of 34 months telling me “your ums are all-la-lish-us”. oh my. I’ll bet you can decode that statement :)

  3. April 22, 2011

congratulations and a hug are in order!

  4. April 22, 2011

What a milestone! We’re having one of those over here, too. Seems like this mama always needed a box of tissues when the nursing was over – sorry I can’t being you a fancy glass of wine and some Kleenex.

Rituals to celebrate. They really do help. Like cairns to mark our way along life’s path.

  6. April 22, 2011

  7. April 22, 2011

A very special moment indeed. Congrats to you both!

  8. April 22, 2011

her grin says it all. congratulations to you both on what is, in my opinion, an amazing accomplishment. (not that it should be, but in our society i do believe it’s hard to pull off.) i love that she is in a snuggle hold to be in the picture, and thank you for not washing your cast iron pan before taking the picture (or photoshopping it out afterwards). ;)

      mb,

Our kitchen is so insanely tiny. It’s nearly impossible to take a picture without clutter lurking. Thanks for appreciating the REALness.

  18. April 24, 2011

One cycle completing, another about to begin… What a great way to honour you both and thanks for sharing this sweet photo of the celebration cake! Life’s transitions are so special :)

    You two are awesome!

I remember my youngest gradually tapering off, just past 4, and one day, when he had not nursed for a few weeks, we both realized he and I were done. My oldest, took another path altogether, with set dates and more set dates and when he was ready it was a milestone for him especially, he learned about seeing the impact of making a decision and sticking to it.

I love that with extended breastfeeding, there is so much more memory/mind/heart connection that has mylinated in the brain, that will (maybe??) really help them as attachment parents down the road. You’ve gotta think all of those synapses firing while they nursed will create future positive attachment instinct for them as parents?!

I’ve had an emotional day, and I just saw this photo for the first time, and it makes me so sad! Obviously, I’m not yet ready to stop nursing my 18 month old. Anyhow, what a beautiful (and delicious!) way to celebrate her transition!

    Love,
    Steph
