Lost and Found

2010 June 1
by Rachel Turiel

LOST:

An APB has been issued from Tupperware Heights for the immediate return of Rammy, Sealy and Baby Sealy.

The trio was last seen sniffing marigolds outside in the lettuce bed:

Pertinent information:

They travel in a pack, are reported to be tame, often travel on cruiseships to Alabama, and spend nights under the loving care of a five year old named Col (parents allege name is pronounced “Cole.”) Mother appeared slightly frantic, with unshaven legs and a coating of flour on the front of her skirt. Rammy, Sealy and Baby Sealy estimated to be missing since 5/30/10.

****

Update 6/2/10: FOUND!

The boys were found zipped inside a Winnie The Pooh suitcase, unharmed, two feet from youngster’s bed and now are back in custody of guardian “Col.”

Suspects include:

**Does your child have a lovey? Has it made nighttime easier or do you race around frantic five minutes before bedtime praying it’ll jump out from the clutter?**

My little one has a filthy, worn-down lovey named “lamby,” and he causes us so much trouble! I swear he gets himself lost at least five times a day, and my daughter CANNOT sleep without him. Actually, she sucks her thumb, but she can’t suck her thumb without lamby in her hand. It’s a whole package deal. Left thumb in mouth, right hand holding up lamby to her face, and lamby’s left hand rubbed between her fingers. I’m not kidding–his left hand is far more worn down than his right, and she’ll flip him over and put him in the right direction if she starts with his right hand. And when lamby is lost on an adventure, it’s pure chaos.

My cat Big John had a Tye tiger I purchased from the thrift store. He would leave it at his water bowl some nights. He’d toss it in the air and chase afeter it, drag it around, and leave it all over the house. One day I filled five trash bags with clothes for pick up. I think Johnny must have tossed Tiger in one of the bags, as it has not been found. I have purchased other toys for John, but he will not play with any of them. I still feel badly about losing that Tiger, as John enjoyed that toy more than any other.
The cats have several baskets of toys, little mice and balls, other sutffed toys and bobble heads, but they are not like dogs and children, who will take toys out of the toy basket. But they are like children; once the toys are out on the floor, they stay there until Gary yells, “I stepped on another darn mouse!” Then I put them back in the basket. My daughters are grown and don’t leave their toys around anymore. There is hope!

my own mother recently told me that she hid her ‘blankie’ as a child in order to stay up late. she thinks she was four or so at the time. she also said her mother is no slouch, but it took her a while to catch on. not that i’m saying this is what’s happening here…just saying, i guess. ; )

Yes. Ellie the Elephant. But since the nine year old that loves her has two homes, there is often not only frantic searches, but also costly overnight fedex deliveries. We have a substitute stuffed animal for emergencies but substitutes really are just that, aren’t they, substitutes.

  5. June 2, 2010

My oldest never cared for stuffed animals at all (he’d hug a bear and then drop it on the floor and stomp on it); the other two have gone through phases ranging from no animals to a bed full of “guys,” and one of them has been moderately attached to a seagull named “Pecky” for the last several months. When they were two, they lost an entire fleet (flock?) of stuffies on a camping trip (we suspect they were playing in a vacant lean-to), which caused some trauma (fortunately they were not the top-rated animals) for a while, and still (almost 3 years later) they sometimes ask if we can go back to Baxter State Park and find Little A-Woo-Wolf, Little Green Dog, the baby dinosaur, and the camel.

I am SO enjoying reading these responses. They are cracking me up, or “laughing me up” as Rosie says.

Oh yeah this sounds familiar! We have had some frantic searches for “pinky” we have driven 3 hours round trip to get her once when she left her at the grandparents and have even ordered a few back-ups from ebay of the beloved pink bear that she can’t part with. It is one of the 15 babies that sleep on her bed with her including “Ellie the Elephant” as well! I am not complaining though, I love how affectionate she is with them. I actually just finished sewing some “baby” slings for her to use for the smaller ones since she has been asking me for such an item for a couple of months now.

you know all about bobby of course. we were saying we should write a little memoir of all of the times he has been lost and then found again. while she does have other favorites that come and go, hazel still loves her ratty white (?) bunny the best

p.s. instead of “crack me up” hazel says “crack me down”.

But that suspect look so darn cute and innocent! :-)

Alex has Blankie. Blankie is this DISGUSTING white blanket that is probably the least nice blanket we ever bought him. Nothing can replace it. NOTHING. And we cannot ever, EVER sleep without it.

Our loveys have all been tucked away, some for more years than others. But I visit them all the time.

Oh. That makes me sad. Thanks for the for-real perspective.

  12. June 2, 2010

we have rotating ‘friends’ to snug with…no favorites really…my son enjoys me pretending to be one of the animals by saying “please, please, please can I sleep in the bed tonight” after many many pleas…he will get a silly little grin and say okay at which time the animal friend will leap on him and smother him with kisses. This was one of those rituals I wasn’t exactly happy I introduced.

    Glad your friends were found.

    Love this playful post.

My little girl wasn’t attached to anything for the longest time since birth – not her bottles, paci, blankey, nothing. And then one day we got her a stuffed cat that looks just like our cat at home. And it clicked. Suddenly, she decided to take on not one but three loveys! (I tell ya, she is not about moderation this Miss All or Nothing)

And I love it because it does make bedtime much easier. Sometimes she’ll be hugging all three as she drifts off, and that’s just too perfect for words.

    Suitably done.
    You have a nice blog.
    Thanks for the post.

    Yikes. Here I am again.
My older (now 3) son has been obsessed with his “bebe” for a long time. Such that we bought him a second one, squirrelled away, and occasionally swapped as dirt needs warranted, and of course occasionally brought out as bebe absence warranted…all is well.
Enter baby brother, stage left. Baby brother reaches approx. 11 months of age, and becomes equally obsessed with said bebe. Determined to have, at all costs…and so, “hey, big brother would it be ok if baby bro had the exact same bebe as you? We could go get him one…” Big bro assents, bebe #2 is unearthed from his so unoriginal (we lived on the edge of discovery for two years…) hiding spot, and all is well, except baby bro’s bebe is “dede.” We elected NOT to mark them in any way, making them infinitely interchangeable (roughly 5 times a day…).
AND: We are getting away with it.
She says smugly. Let’s see what retribution for that arrogance is in store for us tomorrow…

  16. June 2, 2010

P.S. I wrote a blog post about this bebe before he was bebe, referring to him as the bear-in-the-bunny suit. I got an email the next week from someone in New York, whose daughter had lost her lovey – identical to ours – and where or where can he get a new one???? Am happy to say that with me sending him the info on the tag, he was successful on Ebay. Happy endings all around.

One time long ago Amelia had a beanie baby kitten that was her favorite lovey! Then, one day at the park, it was lost. I contemplated buying one on-line but when I looked, the kitten was a collectors item and cost up to $25. So, I scrapped it and life went on. Then months later my mother-in-law sent us a whole bunch of kittens she found at a garage sale. Ironically, the kitten was in the package. It wasn’t the same kitten but Amelia was very happy!

I loved reading these comments – was very moved somehow about the urgent overnight Fed-ex’s of Ellie between homes .
We too have a bear in a bunny suit (Tranny bear, we call him, for his cross-dressing ways), but I’m the only one who’s really smitten. My son, nearly 5, has never been attached to anything in particular. His cousins all had blankets, called “cookies” for no apparent reason, which had to go everywhere. Other cousin had 2 bears, called Teddy and Mo Teddy – also disastrous when they wandered off. I had Ratty – a rat made out of a sock, who originally had a very natty burgundy smoking jacket. Ratty is very battered and resides in a trunk, but is still adored.

Yellow Blankie is nearly a conjoined twin to my three year old, Lucy May. I consider myself an avid knitter and the material this blankie was made out of makes my skin crawl. But, my aunt made it for me when I was a mere month old. Somehow, Lucy found it in a box at 14 months and it has been hers ever since. It has long and white tassles that look gray on the cleanest of days.
Since we live on an island, the elusive drive home sometimes gets tricky. But, it pays to know the ferry workers. Trying to come back to the island after visiting nearby family, we missed the five o’clock ferry due to an insane amount of tourists. After a nap/movie in the minivan we were about to board for the 8:00 pm at 7:43 we realized the yellow blankie was at Lucy’s uncle’s house. They drove it down Bond-style. We pulled out of the loading lane; walk on passenger stragglers were running on deck. At 7:58 my brother-in-law ran it to lot’s edge and we were able to drive on just in time. After this moment, I realized maybe I should go buy yucky yellow yarn and knit a replica…

little babes has bear (my favorite), night-night batman and red batman (known to the rest of the world as superman). he likes to chew on night-night batman’s face. all three *must* be present and accounted for before bedtime rituals can commence, which often leads to a very harried mama traipsing around the house, looking behind couches and under piles of random while a very squealy mischevious baby makes a break for it from the bedroom.
    such is life.
also – rose? not guilty, that one. never.

My daughter had a menagerie in bed with her, but the Holly Hobby rag doll was the one that had the place of honored place in her arms as she fell asleep.

Noah says: “Mommy, someday can we move to Durango, too?” Every time we look at your blog, we wish we were there. Or, more specifically, I wish I were one of your kids!!!

You’re doing an awesome job on the blog!

Please give huge hugs to Col and Rosie, Dan, and yourself!
P.S. Fiona has a “lovey”: a disgusting, dirty, slobbered-upon hat made of that super-soft Dreamsacks bamboo material.

I was just about to comment about my daughter’s faithful lovey – a well-worn, long-legged, floppy-eared brown puppy named, appropriately, Puppy – when I was summoned to her room by distressed wailing. “Puppy fell,” she whimpered. quickly rescued and placed back in her arms, daughter pleads, “you lay down, just a few minutes?” naturally, being the snuggle-hungry mama that I am, I obliged. slipping my arms around her and pulling her sleepy body close to mine, the girl calmed quickly, content in mama’s embrace, leaving me to wonder if Puppy actually fell…or was he pushed?

She would kill me if she knew I was typing this….but my 16 year old still has her lovey in her bed with her nightly ~ a well worn turquoise blue beaver kind of looking thing she has had since she was 3! All the other stuffed toys have been packed away, but Beaver still slumbers with her each night and even goes on road trips with us.

However, after going through this course and watching the videos that Andrew has created, I was really
excited because I have learned many new and powerful strategies for affiliates to boost their income immediately.
You have to start by thinking carefully about
whatever it is you are actually trying to do
in your online marketing project. By discovering what the most common mistakes affiliates make can
perhaps dispel the gloom about myths surrounding affiliate marketing,
thereby correcting some wrong notions about it.
